How does Mahjong work?
The Goal
The ultimate aim is to be the first player to build a winning hand of 14 tiles, consisting of four specific sets and one identical pair.
What's in the Box?
A standard Mahjong set contains 144 tiles divided into three main suits (Dots, Bamboos, and Characters), plus Honors (Winds and Dragons).
Building the Wall
Before playing, all tiles are shuffled face down. Players then build a square wall of tiles and roll dice to determine who deals first.
Draw and Discard
Play moves counter-clockwise. On your turn, you draw one tile from the wall and discard one from your hand to maintain a total of 13 tiles.
Chows, Pongs, Kongs
You can claim other players' discarded tiles to complete your sets: a sequence of three (Chow), a triplet (Pong), or a quad (Kong).
Calling Mahjong!
When a drawn or discarded tile completes your 14-tile hand, call out "Mahjong!" to win the round and tally up your score.
